The Cube
History
In 1891, a remarkable journey began when engineer Hans Peter Prior laid the foundation for what would evolve into one of Denmark's most significant industrial ventures. From its humble beginnings, the Nordisk Kabelfabrik, or NKT, was established at Store Kannikestræde 14 in Copenhagen, specializing in the production of electrical wires and cables.
1975
Its façade once glowed as a beacon of innovation, casting light across Priorparken. Fifty years later, the glow returns — reborn through LITECOM’s vision.
1970
The building reflects the design culture of its time. Inside, warm wood, color panels, and Danish modern furniture contrast the cold brilliance of steel and voltage.
1965
In full operation, the hall hums with controlled storms. Technicians in blue coats walk beneath machines the size of houses.
1960
The High Voltage Laboratory stands complete — one of Europe’s most advanced. Inside, immense generators and capacitors simulate lightning and time.
1959
The winter of 1959 sees rapid progress. Concrete beams are cast, foundations set, and steel frames rise against the Danish sky.
1958
Construction begins at Priorparken. Architect Kaj Stensballe’s design takes form — a monumental structure engineered to withstand lightning itself.
